Following a remarkable performance at the Algoa Rally, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa's (TGRSA) National Rally Championship (NRC) team is revving up for their next challenge – the NTT Tzaneen Rally. The upcoming event, known for its fast, flowing, and technical rally roads, is set to test the team's skill and determination as they continue to chase championship points.
Scheduled to take place in the scenic area around the town of Tzaneen in South Africa's Limpopo province, the NTT Tzaneen Rally promises exhilarating racing action. The rally's renowned forest areas will provide a formidable backdrop as the TGRSA NRC team navigates through the demanding stages for Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2023 season.
The TGRSA NRC team has been meticulously preparing for the NTT Tzaneen Rally, ensuring that both of their locally built and developed Toyota Starlet rally cars are in impeccable condition. After their stellar performance at the Algoa Rally, the team is determined to maintain their momentum and build on their achievements.
Once again, the dynamic duo of Jono van Wyk and co-driver Nico Swartz will be in action. Van Wyk, fondly known as the "Swazi Cowboy," has consistently demonstrated his speed and skill, making his mark in the championship. His partnership with navigator Nico Swartz has proven to be a winning combination, and they are eager to conquer the challenges that the NTT Tzaneen Rally presents.
Teammates Mandla Mdakane and co-driver Kes Naidoo are also set to showcase their tenacity and driving capabilities. Despite facing mechanical challenges earlier in the season, Mdakane's impressive performance at the Algoa Rally demonstrated his potential as a rising star in the NRC. With the team's dedicated technical crew behind them, Mdakane and Naidoo are determined to continue their upward trajectory.
Round 5 of the 2023 NRC, the first day of the NTT Tzaneen Rally, is scheduled for Friday, August 25. The day will feature seven special stages, including two town stages held in the evening, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event. Round 6, taking place on Saturday, will comprise six special stages, culminating in the rally's conclusion at the Tzaneen show grounds.
Both rally days will kick off from NTT Toyota in town, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown. As the TGRSA NRC team prepares to tackle the unique challenges of the NTT Tzaneen Rally, Team Manager Guy Botterill expressed his confidence in the team's abilities, stating, "Our crews have proven their mettle, and we are ready to take on the fast and technical roads that the Tzaneen Rally is known for."
